China Slows Down

As with all programs, China is experiencing some delays.  We have been through this in the past, but it is never fun for the families waiting for a referral.

While the reasons for the slowdown are unclear, we now see families waiting 12 - 16  months for a referral after their paperwork gets to China.

Please support our waiting families with reassurance that their special child will make the waiting worthwhile.

New Group of Special Needs Children From China

We have a new group of special needs children available now for match.  Once the paperwork arrives in China, a family waits 3 - 4 months until travel.

All those considering China adoptions might want to explore this expedited program.

Office Closed July 4th

We will be closed on July 4th and will return any messages on the 5th. If you need to drop off documents we do have a closed & locked drop box at the bottom of the stairs.

Office Closed the Last Friday of Each Month

As part of our new staff development plan, we are closing the office to client activity the last Friday of each month in order to address some of the interoffice issues and activities.  We will be checking messages throughout the day and return any emergency calls.  All other calls will be returned the following Monday.  We will be closed to all non-emergency client activities and appointments.

Closure begins Friday, June 30th, followed by July 28th, August 25th, September 29th and so on.

Toddler T-Shirts Now Available!

We have recently added toddler t-shirts to our collection of beautifully colored t-shirts.  We have 23 shirts in a variety of colors,  sizes (XS) 2-4 years.  They are available now for only $8.

NACAC 32nd Annual Conference in Long Beach, California

The North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) is hosting their annual adoption conference July 26 - July 30, 2006, in Long Beach, California.  This is a must-attend conference for adoptive and foster parents and adoption professionals.

~~~Next year's conference will be on the east coast~~~

Family Potluck/Talent Show & Fundraiser Announced!

Adoption Horizons has moved the date of our annual family potluck and talent show to Saturday, September 23, 2006.  Like past years, we are again having a potluck luncheon (flyer to come) and talent show. Adoption Horizons alumnus Shantaram the Magician will be on hand to entertain.

If you have a talent to share, please let someone in the office know what your needs are.   If you become inspired the day of the event,  you are still encouraged to share your skills.

The event will be held in McKinleyville at the Azalea Hall on September 23, 2006 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

New for this year will be a fundraiser event with proceeds to benefit Adoption Horizons. Twenty "theme" baskets will be "Dutch" auctioned during the potluck.  How does a "coffee basket" or "movie night" basket sound?  There are more wonderful themes as well.

Board member Laura McEwen is heading up this activity.  Watch for more information in upcoming flyers and postcards.

A Quilt Raffle

Denise Fitzgerald has made a beautiful quilt which will be raffled for the next three months.  A final drawing will be held at the annual picnic on September 23, 2006 (need not be present to win).

Advance ticket sales will begin in July with the proceeds benefiting Adoption Horizons.

Shu Yi's Classes!

Just another reminder that Shu Yi is available to conduct classes to teach your kids to speak Chinese and to teach simple Chinese painting appropriate for children ages 5 and up.

She also has a wonderful hour-long Power point presentation on China that is a perfect orientation for those planning on traveling to China.

Shu Yi is available Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 - 4:00 pm. If you want to learn more about this or enroll please feel free to call her at (707) 444-9909.

Reminder that there is a 24-hr  locked, drop box located by the downstairs door.  It is checked daily during business days.

We hope you like the new layout for our e-mails.  We improved our system so the materials we send you can be easily archived and put on our website.

We are now sending emails through PHPList which will allow us to easily send emails to everyone, and allows you to sign up or remove yourself from our email list if you wish to do so. If you know someone who is interested in our emails please direct them to http://www.adoption-horizons.org/lists/ where they can sign up for our E-News.

Wish List

As we continue to expand and grow, we have realized that its time to get some new furniture.

1.  We are looking to replace our old library hutch and entertainment center with some nice new bookcases for our library. The bookcases we want total up to about $800. Is there a donor out there who would like to fund this? Is there someone else who would like our old items?
